Funding Our Island
This land is abundant with resources but, due to resource extraction, many people are left without. As a servant of the people, my duty would be to change this.
There are many avenues through which this change can happen. I will reach out to philanthropists as well as identify and pursue applicable grants. I will work with local service clubs, other residents and volunteer groups to help meet more of our island's needs.
Tourism is coming back, but it won't financially counter the shortfalls of our county budget that existed prior to Covid-19. I will work with the County Auditor and our Council Committees to identify both redundancies and waste within our government and do my part to make our government more efficient.
Ultimately, we need to tax our visitors more appropriately. I would also propose a one time 3% property tax on all mainland transplants purchasing property for the first time.
